The National Gallery of Portraits in Chandigarh is a portrait of India’s relentless struggle for independence that spanned over two centuries. Here you will come across photographs of not only people who led the freedom struggle, but also various historic events and incidents. There are duplicates of original writings and documents of the freedom fighters and an incredible collection of books on the freedom movement in its library.

You can also listen to the recorded voices of some of these great leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawarhar Lal Nehru. As you listen to the speeches, you can feel the energy of the movement pulsate and run through you across the speakers, warming your heart. Also housed at the gallery are rare documents, photographs, books, ceramic murals and sculptures dating from that time. Every Sunday at 2 PM the gallery features a film on the freedom movement of India.
