Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh is a rain fed reservoir at the foothills (Shivalik hills) of the Himalayas.  The lake was planned and created by Le Corbusier in 1958 and had foreseen that the residents of the city would be drawn it for the ‘care of the body and spirit’. It is a vast garden stretching out in sections of land in all headings with roses as well as contains various restorative trees and bushes with impressive backdrop and the tree shaded walkway running along the lake is a walker’s delight. The garden comprises of seats and trails for working out. The atmosphere here is serene.  It is a tranquil spot with picturesque waterfront and the calling of birds adds to the quiet air. From December through February, one can see many species of aquatic birds from central Asia and Siberia. The lake has facility for various water sporting activities like sailing, water skiing, and yachting are done here and is infact venue of the Asian Rowing Championship. Food stalls are accessible. It has The Garden of Silence  and Sukhna wildlife sanctuary within it.
